Question: Chronic middle back pain?
(Posted by: on 2012-01-26 19:32:47)
I am a 21 year old male in good health, but for the last 4 or 5 months I have suffered severe back pain. The pain is just below my shoulder blades on the spine and slightly to the right of the spine. The pain levels vary from debilitating to tolerable. I have been to the emergency room once for a steroid shot, a couple of walk in clinics which gave various muscle relaxers/ anti- inflammitories (none of which worked), had an MRI done that came back normal, and completed 30 days of physical therapy. The only thing out of all of this that actually helped the pain at all was a heating pad, but apparently I used it too often because I developed a net like rash on my back in the area of use. Now that I can't use the heating pad, I've been numbing the area with an ice pack and using bengay for some relief. After 5+ 'experts' and months of pain, I am no closer to a solution. Does anyone have any similar symptoms that have been diagnosed or any alternative advice. I would much appreciate it. Thank you all for your answers. I do have to say Douglas, I attempted your stretches and they did relieve a little pain. With that said, the pain is only relieved for a few seconds (a few minutes at most). I have still been attempting the stretches a few times a day hoping that maybe the muscle will work itself loose, but unfortunately I don't feel like I am making any headway. I've tried to look up a pinched muscle on my own to see if there was any other stretches I could do, but I could not find any results. All of the results either showed "pinched nerves " or "pulled muscles " so if there is any other information or maybe links you could send to me, it would help me out a lot. Thank you for everything that you all have done so far. |

The good news is is that I'm not an expert, but this is my expertise. Back pain is caused by a pinched muscle. No test or scan shows them up so they go undiagnosed. Because the muscle is pinched it reacts better to heat, it expands the muscle. Cold helps contract the muscle, which can make the pain worse once the feeling returns to the area, or help keep it tight longer. To get rid of a pinched muscle in your back you have to free up your back muscles for them to release it and here's how to free them up: Back: (do while sitting) Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side. For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed. |

Take a hot bath then do some stretches. Because we feel pain in any part of spine specially in neck & back when facet muscle of the body bothers with related nerves. You should try to remove the pain through stretches, because most of the time it is a body disorder. Here are links of exercises which can help you as did mine : itunes.apple.com/ tw/ app/ id457029203?mt |

Brandon, There are pain relief therapy devices such as DENAS available in the market which will give you pain relief. I hope that helps you. |
