Back pain that runs down one leg is often due to sciatica - inflammation of the sciatic nerve. If that's what is wrong, there are exercises you can do. I've been dealing with sciatica for several years; if I do my exercises, don't walk too fast or too far, or lift anything that's the least bit heavy (they say nothing heavier than your shoe), I'll be in good shape. When a nerve root connected to the spine is injured or pinched, sciatica pain, weakness, numbness or tingling may be felt in the part of the body served by that nerve. It's important to keep your back muscles strong, your abs, too. It certainly wouldn't hurt to visit your doctor and get his/ her opinion, because treatment for sciatica or sciatic symptoms often differs, depending upon the underlying cause of the symptoms and pain levels. So, although you can Google exercises for sciatica and even view videos, without knowing exactly what's going on with your back, I'd hate to recommend any in particular. I just know what works for me. |
